Welcome to The Buddy Programme!

What is the Buddy Programme?

Every year, Aarhus BSS welcomes hundreds of international students starting their full-degree programs, whether bachelor’s or master’s. To give them the best possible start to their new student life in Aarhus, Studenterlauget created the Buddy Programme to help new international students integrate socially into BSS. The programme has been running successfully since 2006!

Each year, the Buddy Programme coordinators recruit new buddies (volunteers), who are current students at Aarhus BSS, to welcome the newcomers (new full-degree international students at Aarhus BSS). These buddies organize various social events, helping new students make friends and enjoy their time. The programme is introduced to newcomers during their introduction days.

In short, the Buddy Programme is:

  • A social programme for new international students at Aarhus BSS
  • Designed to help you settle in socially and have an awesome first semester
  • Includes multiple events during your first semester at Aarhus BSS

Have a Look

What is a Buddy?

A buddy is a volunteer who is a current student at Aarhus BSS. They are socially interested, open-minded, and familiar with the campus, the city of Aarhus, and Danish culture. Buddies can be both international and Danish full-degree students at Aarhus BSS.

Buddies gain numerous benefits from the programme, including the opportunity to improve their language skills, participate in social events, expand their social network, and gain international experiences with students from around the world. It’s a rewarding way to make friends, learn, and grow while helping others.

What is a Newcomer?

A newcomer is an international full-degree master’s or bachelor’s student who has just started studying at Aarhus BSS and is assigned to a Buddy. Please note that exchange students cannot participate in this program.

What Can Newcomers Expect?

  • Buddy Assignment: You’ll be assigned to a Buddy and placed in a Buddy Group.
  • Big Introduction Day: Kick off your journey with a grand introduction day.
  • Pub Crawl: Explore local nightlife with fellow students.
  • City Tour: Get to know the city of Aarhus through a guided tour.
  • Christmas Dinner: Celebrate the holiday season with a festive dinner.
  • Smaller Get-Togethers: Enjoy various activities and events within your Buddy Groups.

To Qualify as a Newcomer, You Must:

  • Be an international student
  • Be a full-time student
