Campus 2.0

Mark Your Calendar: Campus 2.0 Timeline

admin

Curious when each step of Campus 2.0 is happening? Here’s a quick timeline of key milestones so you know what to expect and when:

  • Late 2024: The AU Board green-lit the comprehensive 10-year campus development plan
(sometimes dubbed “Campus 3.0”). This was the fiirst step in setting the comming timeline in motion.
  • 2022: Before this, there were some early signs of change: The first new underpass’ between University Park and the hospital campus opened , and 132 student apartments in Universitetsbyen were ready by July 2022. Also around this time, the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (Science) moved into University City as the pioneer occupants – a hint of things to come.
  • 2023–24: Construction in University City accelerates. By 2024, the new BSS buildings (including the round auditorium and teaching facilities) are well underway, and the site is transforming rapidly. AU’s 10 principles and detailed design strategies were finalized. On the old campus, University Park gets conservation status in 2024 , ensuring its preservation.
  • End of 2024: AU communicates details to students. By Dec 2024, we got official word that from 2 Feb 2026 BSS students at Fuglesangs Allé will start the semester in Universitetsbyen. Planning for the big move begins in earnest with info on who moves where.
  • Early 2025: Campus improvements start delivering. In March 2025, the new Exam Hall in Lisbjerg is completed and opened for use in the summer exam period . In April 2025, AU runs competitions (like the café wall art contest) and exhibitions (upcycled furniture showcase) to involve students and prep new spaces. The second new underpass connecting Park & City is set to finish around 2025.
  • Mid-Late 2025: Moves and installations ramp up. Throughout 2025, you’ll see moving trucks and hear about departments packing. BSS administrative offices may start relocating late 2025. AU Herning’s new study spaces are unveiled (spring 2025) , and other construction like Arts’ new facilities continue. You’ll also see a series of student news updates with specifics (library locations, canteen info, etc.) – basically prepping everyone for the transition.
  • End of 2025 (Winter break): This is likely crunch time for the BSS move. Over the Jan 2026 break, the final moving of furniture, equipment, and setup in University City happens. Fuglesangs Allé is vacated by the start of 2026 and AU’s lease there ends.
  • February 1, 2026: Grand Opening of the new Campus for BSS! The spring semester of 2026 marks Day 1 of classes held in the new University City facilities for Department of Economics, Department of Management, etc. . Students head to buildings 1810–1816 and 1830–1834 in U-city where those departments now reside. Expect ribbon-cuttings, orientation events to help folks find their way, and probably a party or two.
  • 2026 onward: The transformation continues. Throughout 2026, Arts will complete their move into University City’s southern part , meaning more student influx and activity. Katrinebjerg construction also progresses, likely aiming for completion around 2027–28 for the major engineering facilities. By this time, University City is fully buzzing with BSS and Arts daily life, and Fuglesangs Allé campus is history.
  • 2030 (approx): Katrinebjerg campus park and remaining projects finalize. Tech and engineering departments fully settle in at Katrinebjerg, and the biodiversity park there matures into a beautiful space.
  • 2034: The horizon of the plan. By this year, the vision is that AU’s physical campus development goals are achieved: activities centered around the unified campus in Aarhus (Park, City, Katrinebjerg), and all major relocations and new constructions done . Campus 2.0 (or 3.0) is essentially complete, and AU will probably be celebrating how far it’s come in a decade.

Keep in mind, timelines can shift (construction is a wild ride). But these are the broad strokes. We’re right now in the thick of it (2025–26), which is super exciting. It’s not often you get to witness and be part of such a major campus overhaul. So mark these dates, stay informed via official channels (AU’s campus page is updated regularly ), and maybe circle Feb 2026 with a big red marker – that’s going to be a milestone for the history books and for your personal AU journey.
